I have a yellow tang that started getting these red spots on him when I put my brown powder tang in after being in quarantine for awhile. At first they would kinda come and go now they are always there but sometimes they are bigger or brighter than other times. He is still eating and acting normal and it has been 2 weeks now. All the others in the tank look fine too. I don't know what it is or what to do. Can someone please help?????

Well could it be from the two tangs fighting. I think that could be a good possibility. I have not sen anything like that but I do know that my tang liked to back up to my sailfin and give a few good whacks for about a week. Maybe just watch them and see if they are fighting.

my yellow tang and my vlamingi tang scwabbled at first but now they're best friends. they even hang out in the same little 4 inch cave with no posturing or anything. sounds like they are fighting a little. make sure you give enough food and when it's nori i put a lot in so there is enough. they are both heavy eaters. watch em close they could just mellow out.

test your water. high amounts of nitrates from over feeding can do that. I have seen it before. what exactly it is. im not sure.

And any information you can provide about your setup will help with finding the cause. Also include your QT setup as well.

I have watched them very closely because I thought the same thing but they are getting along very well.....

I agree with Diablo! Test your water. Tangs usually react like that to an amonia spike. I would do a large water change. Hope it helps!

You're looking at type of hematoma (bruise), as everyone has mentioned this can be triggered by traumatic injury or stress. My guess is a little initial off and on aggression, and that little spike (the thing that gves tangs the name tangs....) on your Powder brown nailed the yellow a few times leading to a little internal blood leakage. that fact it has not gotten worse after the initial fluctuations in size probably indicates that there is no longer any aggression going on after they sorted things out, which is born out by your conscientious observations, and also lends doubt to the water quality possibility since one would expect it to progress and lead to other symptoms, loss of appetite etc. Nevertheless, Keep an eye on your water quality, it never hurts to do a partial change, that's the first thing I do in any situation just for my own peace of mind, makes me feel proactive. I think it will gradually diminish and clear up on it's own, keep us posted, good luck

Hello;

I introduced a Yellow Eye Kole Tang a few years back and my Yellow Tang had the same symptoms in a week and was trying to scratch him/her self on any surface. Next the Kole Tang broke out with white slime and died shortly there after. I also, watched behavior and both got along well.

I Qt'ed all my fish for 8-weeks in hyposalinity --- they are all fine today.

Just something to consider as Tangs are very sensitive :rolleyes:

Hello;

This is a nice link for a quick identification.

I kind of remember my Yellow Tang with those red streaks on his fins and treated this with antibiotics in QT. I used a gram negative antibiotic as most fish related bacteria are gram negative. Also, the antibiotics used to treat gram negative bacteria will not kill off your biological filter as the bacteria there are gram positive. :)
