I need to know quick! RTN?

Is this what a person calls RTN?
If so can you please tell me how to stop this. This frag cost me way too much to have it die on me.

This is the only frag I have seen do this. It looks like it had a reaction to super glue.
I posted this in the SPS forum to learn about this but I need to know now how to stop it. This took only 24 hours to do that damage. Oh and it has been in the tank since last Saturday.

I posted for Kevin but I think he is out and I know if I let this go another day I will loose a lot of it if it spreads.
I almost want to go in there and cut out the dieing spot.
I was able to blow off the tissue with a baster. I am clueless!

Need water parameters. I see a lot of algae, how is your nitrates and phosphates? Many other sps in the tank or mostly LPS. Close to any competitors as in chem warefare?

Was your superglue chilled by any chance? i've seen this happen with chilled superglue where the base turns white.

Also, does it look like the flesh is flaking off or is it just pretty much turn white. If you give it another day, you may not have it if it truly is RTN. if flaking, i'd say it's RTN and you'd want to frag that right branch off quickly and get the bad out of there. I'm hoping you answered that you used cold superglue and that's all it is.

OK..

That algae you see is what is left from a long 4 month battle in another temporary tank.
I have mainly SPS in my tank with a few LPS. This frag is no where near another one. I have seen the results of coral battles and my prize acan shows the skeleton or battle wound (lost to another acan).

The super glue was warm. The flesh part was not flakey but more like white mucus that I was able to blow off.
I have been using super glue for over 3 years now with NO ill affects to any of my coral.

Should I wait till tomorrow??

Well if you want to be safe then I'd frag it otherwise wait it out.

not worth risking. Frag it. worse can happen is that you have two pieces. Make sure you cut one at least 1/4 inch away from the white stuff.

Odds are if it was rtn it would be completely white by now. Probably the glue which caused a little stn rather that rtn. Rtn can take a sps out in a matter of a day.

What is that? Can it be stopped?

RTN is most easily identified by the shedding off of "skin." Is the color shedding off like a sunburn peel? The fleshy layer should be fluttering in the currrent if it's RTN.

If not, I would guess that portion of the coral got nailed by the glue. RTN will happen in a matter of hours, usually, not days. Is the white area still expanding?

The spelling may be wrong. Yes the stn can be stopped. Spread a little super glue over the bad area and on some of the good just above. RTN can take out a whole large colony very quickly. One day it's pretty the next it's a pretty white. dead! you should be fine.

if RTN = Rapid Tissue necrosys, is STN = Slow Tissue necrosys?

the way sherman described RTN is consistent with what I've seen before too. Flakey edges with little pieces just kind of sloughing off.

oh well no flesh flapping in the water, just looked like rotting acro and I blew it off showing the pure white skeleton.
