I'm always browsing the forum and the world wide web, looking at other tanks and tank blogs. After a while I started noticing how ghetto my setup was. Literally just peiced together. If you where to look at it you'd think "how is this tank working?"

I'm really suprised that everything is working they way I have it..lol

Am I the only one?

here are some pics

its right above your post.. lol

the stand is spraypainted.. and rubber bands are keeping the doors shut

Hey,,, it's a labor of love.
nothing wrong with diy.

True, but I could have taken my time and made things a little nicer I think. like my whole return plumbing has no glue in any of the joints except the first albow.. lol..

that is scary!!! sounds like a disaster waiting to happen:shock: ...

you obviously have no clue what ghetto is :p  .

i used to have tooth brushes holding my lights and broken glass for covering my tank:lol:

oh my god!! i forgot about that!! The Tooth Brush Queen:eek: ...she is right.. hers was ghetto!!:D

oh my god!! i forgot about that!!

LMAO!!! .
the latest one is, one broken canopy door and the other one ....well let's just say you gotta lift it a little if you wanna close that door

You might want to get some glue on the plumbing, but other than that I think it look nice. ghetto or no ghetto, it works that's all the matters.

Your tank looks like half of the systems out there..
The fancy ones posted in all of the forums are far and few between. Most set up a system and then tweak it a bit and then a bit more to make it work and keep it working. Just like you. DIY saves hundreds if not thousands

yup it works.. I like it.. I dont have a problem with it as long as my tank does ok..

I need to add a ball valve to my return line so I can adjust my rate of flow.. because sometimes my j-tubs get airbubbles and causes the water to raise in my tank..

when it comes to doing things myself i'm kind of a half asser.. I dont have a lot of time so a lot of things go unfinished.

Your return line looks almost identical to mine (except mine is actually glued ). Nothing wrong with DIY, except those hang-on overflows can fail and flood the house :)

Your setup is great.
Check out my UV protection on my closed loop.

Dude.. that looks nice.. all your plumbing looks complete/

I've shorted out 2 power strips allready. And I dont have gfi protection.. I should buy a couple gfi strips.

oh.. and does anyone else have to suck the air bubbles out of there overflow j-tubes at least once a week?

Hint: do not use IKEA power strips, they look like GFI but they are not. They are cheap and convenient until they start sizzling and smoking!

And this is why I hate hang on the back overflows. But you could stuff an airline up one end to the top and suck on it, or use an aqualifter pump and keep a close eye on it!

What other kind of overflows are there? are you talking about a built in one? I plan on drilling one like disturbed reefers cub tank when I start building my next one.
