I just noticed an irregular patch of something black on my live fiji rock. I will try to get a picture but its about as big as a quarter and 1/4 inch tall. It feels spongy to the touch and reminds me of that green mat algae.
Any ideas of what it could be?

Yeah nothing harmfull. I have black pink and tan sponges growing in some parts of my rock. they never bother anything.

hey! thanks! that is a great site. I do see that its Caribbean sponges but my sponge sounds (and looks) like the aremisina melana. i do have a little hawaiian rock and another site says it grows there too.
as a newbe I am loving reefkeeping. its been tough to learn all this stuff but so rewarding.

2 cool thanks for that link

i have Neopetrosia rosariensis

Its fun finding things like this. I spend a little time looking for sites like these because I have sooo much going on in my tank and I want to know what it is. Like all the different mini brittle stars I have and the sponges and corals and macro algaes.
