Do they retract into their holes like other tubeworms do? If not, I believe those might actually be hydroids. I never saw the ones in my tank quite that close up, so hard to be positive. If so, they are something you'll want to remove. Kalk paste will work on the nasty, stingy things.

Let me see if I can find some comparison shots.

Here's a pic

Yup, looks like hydroids. The reefer's pain in the @ss

Hydroids :( . My Blueface angel ate mine. They can sting your corals. A slurry of calcium hydroxide (pickling lime) and an eye dropper will do them in.

Our Copperband took care of ours. Now he's on the hunt for more! Kinda feel sorry for him. Ditto also on the above post.

I sent a picture to WetWeb Media. I was told if they have a hard tube(they Do) and withdraw quickly ( they withdraw); they are probably a type of featherduster.

I thank everyone for their inputs.

Hmmm....based on the picture, I still think Alice may have hit it. However, here is a photo of Serpulid Feather Dusters:

Just hopped over from Reef Central.I also believe that they are in the family sabellidae and are a type of tube worm/feather duster and are harmless. However, I too will look for a better picture.

Hey Alice, I have things in my tank that look exactly like the pic you posted, however they do retract into their tubes, contrary to what you've written... They havnt really spread, although theyve gotten a bit longer to accomodate for their position... are they really that bad?

thx

If they retract "quickly" they are probably a type of tube worm and are harmless. That is what mine are.

It's always nice to find good hitchikers rather than just the bad ones. ;)

Thanks. I need a way to shorten NaH2O. It takes too long to think. Like I'm in chemistry class. I could call you nah, or h20, or sodium, or water or kalkperson or lady or 'hey you' or bubba. I'll think about it.
