Ideal Temperature

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Thanks guys...I think I am sitting pretty good. My tank seemed to have worked off a little extra heat that must have been accumulated in there and this morning without any adjustments to the tank or central air, my temp was at 79.5F. If I only get the same 0.3 swing today, my tank will be sitting under 80F.

Like I've said, I just wanted to know if corals will do just fine under my numbers. I needed to know where the max temp would be so I could know where I stood. It seems everyone agrees that my temp is fine, so I'll just make sure things stay within the range for about 1 week and then go from there:)

The MAX temp with SPS is about 86 deg. and then things well start stn' ing.

Wow! Well, I'll be fine then because I don't plan on going above 81F if I can help it at all. So we shall see...:)

Just my personal opinion here.
The ocean has hot water eddies, and cold water eddies. HUGE ones. You can see them on satelite pictures if you search for them. The stuff in the ocean is tough. A point .3 degree swing is really not a big deal to me. If it was all my corals would be dead.

LOL...Yeah I know man. I'm keeping things within reason now very well so far with not even a half a degree swing. I wasn't really too concerned about the swing, just the max temperature I would be fine at. I always thought 79 was max that's why I started up the thread, but I have found it is not so...:)

I've actaully measured 4deg F swings between high tide and low tide in beautiful and healthy reefs in hawaii. By the sizes and colors of the corals, I'm guessing it doesnt bother them.

Sounds good Luke. I know over the span of a year the temperature changes drastically here in the water! It goes from, "OUCH! There's no way in hell in getting in that ice cold water!" to "Get a bottle of water out of the refrigerator on the boat so I can pour it on my head to cool off!" It doesn't happen over night, but I wonder if we should try running our tanks at 75 degrees for part of the year and then 85 degrees for the other half??? That could be a good experiment for you Luke:p

well alot of controllers have seasonal temperatures built into them. i know the aquacontroller junior does but i've never used it.

Pretty neat! If I get any local corals to put in my tank, they probably could survive anything...Just like potcakes! (a potcake is what we call a mixed breed dog:p)

Glad you clarified that Krish.
In WA I think it means something else.
Like Pot Cake. I hear its big up there. LOL

LMBO!!! .
well this is the first time i hear it, so i gues i'm still a newb :p .

Pot cake is also what you get when you cook rice and some sticks to the bottom of the pot and gets clumpy and hard. The clumpy crap is called pot cake here...So in any event, if you visit the Bahamas and are asked if you want anything to do with the word pot cake, say HELL NO!!:p

O.C.D............just sayin LOL

I bet you if you went away and had to leave your tank in someone elses hand you'd want someone with OCD taking care of it:p
