Just tagging along... planning to buy a Euro-reef or ASM Skimmers which the same everything except for plastic used.

euro-reef, comes with its own pump and they are very efficent and are super easy to adjust, just raise or lower the out flow vertical tube and that is the only adjustment, no air intake valves or injector nozzles or air stones. They are litterly plug and skim and make tons of bubbles and are really easy to get the cup off of and clean.

I went with the Euro-Reef for my new tank, mainly because of the reviews it gets. It took some time for me to save up for it (hospitalized cat took my funds), but I think I'll be happy with it. AquaC also makes a good skimmer, and I've also read alot of good things about the Aerofoamer. I had a link to a skimmer comparison test, but the site is under construction. Here are a few links to the skimmers I was looking into. Hope they provide you with some extra information:

in a skimmer. I will be building a new stand and will need to know if I can get away with a 30" model or if I need the 36". As I do not have the benefit of a basement of "dedicated" fish room so everything must go under the tank.Thanks again, great site.

I went with the CS8-3 for my tank (120gal) in hopes that it will be able to handle a larger tank when I get there. My stand height is 36", and the model I purchased is 30" tall. The cool thing about the euro-reef cup is you don't need to lift it up to take it off....you just unscrew it and it comes off. I also wanted to allow for room incase I need to raise the skimmer up to get the proper water height. As far as diameter or length? (lol) I'm not very equipment inclined, so not sure what works more efficiently. I suspect it is dependent on the type of skimmer and the way it produces bubbles?

yeah Nikki and you can get into the bubble chamber to clean it if need be. The aqua C is not easy if at all possible to clean the main body, also the aqau c you have to use a collection bucket off of the cup because you can't plug the elbow near the bottom of the collection cup, because it has to be able to release air is what jason at aqua c told me one time.

On diameter and length of skimmer I would think both would be important. You want alot of bubbles to draw stuff out of the water plus a long water tube for more contact time to have stuff adhere to the bubbles. I may be wrong and bless me if I am right!

Johnny i would say your right. I would just add that the mfg probably has this all figured into their design of a particular size of skimmer.
Zeltar I would oversize a little on the tank rating to make sure it well preform for you, I have been told some mfgrs. claim more then their skimmers well actually handle and like nikki you might want to up size the tank someday.

Euro-reef keeps tight price restrictions on retailers. You can buy from any of our sponsors and you will pay virtually the same price. You might look for used but they are hard to come by. I don't think you will be sorryeither way you go.

I like my beckett skimmer made by MYREEFCREATIONS.Andy is a great guy to deal with and has no problem with custom sizing. I think the Barr Aquatic skimmers are pretty similar. I've never seen one of these in person but have seen some good comments on these by members of this MB.
