I saw this little guy (baby naso about 2 inches or so) in the Sumner Fish store last week.
He was eating a piece of mysis shrimp. I noticed he was VERY skinny..
So yesterday I went back and he was still alive and still eating..
The people there said he wont eat anything but mysis.

SO I had to have this little guy..

I want to try and save him..

The funny thing about this little guy..
I drip acclimated him for a while and dropped him in the tank.. I am not kidding in about 60 seconds I put a little food in the tank and he came right out and started eating little pieces of frozen food.
I was shocked. he was boss hoggin' his way around the tank the rest of the night..
No stressed, not afraid. just crizin' around..
I did try some tiny particles or nori and he took right to them.(they had to be like 1/8 shavings)
And this morning he was out and about..
So what I plan to do is feed small amounts three times a day (normaly I feed my tanks once a day) in the smaller tank till he gets beefed up..
I got some pics for you..
I put the one with the chalk bass in there so you can see how small he really is..
The front shot for how skinny he is
you can see in the pic without flash he has a tiny twist of chato in the corner of his mouth. he had that thing for like an hour
AND the Big naso in the other tank was swimming in the corner and this little guy was nearly mimicking his every move. funny stuff.

Thanks.. I just fed the tank again and WOW this guy is hungry..
the fish store did say they only feed once a day..
I understand that but if you have a super skinny but very friendly and active fish wouldn't a guy want to fatten the fish up a bit for health reasons alone , not counting a possible sell. (unless a guy like me comes around.)

You would think so. Being that it is a tang you would think they would have at least tried to get used to some algae sheets on a clip, let the poor guy graze through the day ya know. With the two herbivores I have had so far I think getting them to realize the algae clip is their friend has taken the most work.

thanks guys..
I will do all in my power and knowledge to save this little guy..
I can't wait to post pics in a few months of a fat healthy fish..

Are you going to try to end up putting it in the 125 when it gets bigger? Or is that too risky with your existing tangs?

if one turns male I might but I will prolly have to get a bigger tank (220 true "L" ) when this one gets bigger.
A good reason to upgrade. :)

I have officially named this my "PAPER THIN TANG PROJECT"
He is near paper thin..
And his/her name is "Cracker"
cause he's thinner than a cracker..(the kind you eat )

I know you’ll do a great job for the tang. I have to stop looking at the fish in the store, I just can’t stop bringing strays home too. I got too many already.

I'm so glad you have him. I got a skinny little naso two months ago and although I saw him eat (a little) he died within a week. Very very sad. I hope your little guy makes it.

Adam,

That Naso was skinny when they got it. One of the issues was a Hippo they put in the tank with him a week or two later. The Hippo had ICH. I don't know what Shannon did to treat them, but the Hippo died. I guess they were pretty sure that they had the ICH cured because about a month later they added new fish to the tank.

I wish I had a bigger tank because that HUGE Naso they have is gorgeous.

GL with that Naso. I hope all of it's issues are past!

UPDATE...
The naso is now eating nori out of my hands..
Very active no sings of any illness.. still happy and busy..
pics to come in a few mins..

I know. LOL
When I said 2-3 inches I wasn't kidding.
He wouldn't go from side to side in the palm of my hand..
