info on acrylic tanks

I am getting ready to buy a 240 gallon acrylic tank and I was wanting to know if any one had any preferences or experience with acrylic? I have picked two different brands one is Clarity plus and the other is Tenecor. I am leaning more towards tenecor tank. I am planning on using a Life reef sump system the fs1-300 with the skimmer equiped with it, lighting 4 -175 watt metal halide bulbs with four 11o watt vho or power compacts. Does any one have any Ideas? By the way I am wanting a full blown reef tank with the over flows on the ends so it can be seen from both sides.

Just checking on some tanks. I found a 240R by clear for life for $925. and a 300t for $1339.00 so I am going to call on them tommorow morning.

Hey guys if any one has seen or could give me advice on a tank sure would appreciate it. I have three choices on acrylic tanks. The first one is Clarity plus, second Tenecor, and the third is Clear for Life. They are all 240 gallon systems Clarity plus is $1187.00 and Tenecor is $1037 and Clear for life is $925.00. I can also get a clear for life 300T for $1339.00. Need help desperatly on this I am planning on spending around $4000.00 on the initial set up but dont want to buy a tank and be dissatisfied with it. So come on guys I am sure someone out there has an acrylic tank or seen some, how is the clarity on these tanks I have mentioned which one is better.

I have seen tenecors work and they do build very nice tanks. I haven't seen Clarity's tanks here and only clear for live's little jobs, like 20-30 gallon. I always thought that tenecor was a little on the pricey side but that isn't to bad.
I was watching one of the NFL's pregame shows a couple of weeks ago and they were interviewing Clinton Portis. And he was show off his tanks in his new house. Had a couple of big ones in his entry and an arch tank built over his bed. They looked good on TV and I thought that I saw a tenecor sticker on the arch tank...

One of my tanks is a 100G Tenecor. It's built with good bracing, but bows more that I would like on the front. It's also almost impossible to buff a scratch out of this tank for some reason. I always end up with fine scratches after the process. I don't have this problem with my other acrylic tank.

Unfortunately when I got the tank there was no label on it. I bought it from a guy on the board. I'll PM him to see if he knows what kind it is.

I have an IAP 150T custom and it has 4 round corners. I cant wait to set it up. Its a very nice tank. My first acrylic. It's Going in my resturant.

Gordo's tank is a SeaClear, sold by The Fish Store in Seattle and others. I also have a 10-yr-old 50gal and 13-yr-old 15gal hex all made by them, without any problems at all so far.

Well I ordered a tank from tenecor, found a 48" retro kit with 2-250 watt metal halide lights with 2 vho actinic bulbs 140 watt they said. Do they make a 140watt? I thought only 110watts. Then I ordered my sump system from life reef the fs1-300. The tank I ordered it with two side pre filter 5x15 trapezoids one on each side with centipedes. With shipping and the two end sides colored black so I can see straight thru the aquarium was $1587.61. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but I guess it will be worth it. Hopefully. At least I got the lights at a bergen the kit for $325.00 when they sell from the main company at cool touch for 445.00. Where is a good place to buy metal halide bulbs. 10000K preferably. Ushio

Does anyone know how I can figure out how much sand this tank is going to need? I want to use the Live sand then use some other sand together to help on the biological setup. It is a 240 gallon 96"-24"-24" is the lenght, width and height.

Click on forums at the top, go down (pretty far) to reef calculators forum and click on it, go to reef calculators thread (there are only 2 in the forum) click on it. Enter length and width and depth desired. It will spit out the info you want. Steve
