I have had 2 blue linkia's in my tank for about 18 months now. About a month ago I noticed one stuck to one of the intakes for one of the closed loops (10,000GPH) The linkia was "flat" not fat and round like before. I turned the pump off and removed it from the intake. Not sure how long it was there but it was at minimal days. It's stomach was partly out and it had some necrosis on two spots. I have never seen a Linkia as thin as this one. It's body was covered in bumps similar to ribs showing on a person. I laid it on the sand bed and was going to come back and throw it away in a little. When I came back it was gone. I figured it had crawled up in the rocks and died. I saw both out today for the first time in over a month. It was fat and healthy again. :) I could not believe it. Just thought I would share my Christmas star story.:D

Cool! Miracles do still happen:p Very cool Brian. I have a Christmas story for you...I haven't slept more than 5 hours in about a month!

Yeah, Ron told me you had been dancing more at the PP to make extra money for Christmas.:p  Christmas is almost here so you will get to rest some now.

Yes. That is why I was so shocked. I guess they like my tank?

right on!

It probably helps alot that you have oobers of LR to support it. Hope you have more good luck to continue:)

i'm going to read that story to Kimmy tonight to put her to sleep!!!
make sure you include the part about you and Krish at the PP.:D

I had a similiar experience with my orange one. I found it in a powerhead intake. 1 leg was totally ripped off and another was down to a nub with exposed skeleton and tissue. But when I got him out he was very active so I left him in like you did. The entire legs were grown back and healed fully in about 8 weeks. I have also heard there are hard to keep, but I from what I have seen/heard in establsihed tanks they do very well. I never heard of anyone with a mature tank losing one without good cause. Even in instances like ours where they had plenty of trauma they still seem to pull throught more often than not. Starfish is general seem to be some tough little mothers.

Note I am talking about the blue and orange ones. I have heard mixed things from people about trying to keep the purple ones. Not sure whats different about them though??

What size tank do you have redrooster? I would like to get one, but i just dont think that 240gal is large enough.

lucky !!!
those starfish are really kewl :) ... good thing is not dead .
now start feeding them for crying out loud .... the poor thing told me that you don't feed it to often :p:lol: .

Ron, if i was you, i wouldn't tell Kimmy ....hearing about thongs and what not, are not really good for going to sleep  :p .

Well I only have a 75G. Lots of mature live rock though. About 125lbs and when I got my tank the LR came with it and it was a local move so the rock was kept in tubs instead of newspaper and had heat/powerheads while the tank was being set back up. So overall that rock has been in the tank for over 10 years. I think the key to keeping them is having good mature LR that has lots of diverse life on it. I think the current theory on linkias is that sponge is a food of choice for them. I definiately have a lot of sponges so maybe that is why mine has done OK. Normally 75 is considered small for a linkia, but aside from the powerhead dangers it seems to like my tank.

Maybe it died and was reborn, your tank looks a little bit like reef heaven to me. If you ever get tired of your new red items, I know this little tank near Black Diamond...

LOL!!!

Balogh03 I think a 240 is big enough. Just make sure it is mature and stable before you add it.
I have always heard that the orange ones are the easiest to keep. The blues and purples are not???

Linkia read about them. I want one.

Hey Ronj i have a Tang question. Where should I post? It is important. It is about my Yellow tang's health.
