Is there any good compatibility lists for shrimp? Do they all just get along or will some types fight with others? I would like to add more shrimp and stuff into my tank but I don’t really see any information about this. I have read that the coral banded shrimp can have an attitude but what about some others. I have one coral banded shrimp and three skunk cleaner shrimp and would like to get a variety of other shrimps, starfish, sea urchins, and maybe some more unusual snails. What do you think?

It can be done.

I have 3 scarlet cleaner shrimps, turbo and astrea snails, and nassarius snails to clean the sandbed..all seem to get along...what type of unusal snails are you thinking about?

I have heard of coral banded shrimp eating small fish so shrimp is not for me. :)

I think I would like to get some peppermint shrimp, fire shrimp, a sexy shrimp maybe.

Spiny star astraea snails, Tiger Cowrie, Halloween hermit, a few different serpent or brittle stars, maybe a purple lobster. How about a pincushion urchin or 3.

Basically looking to increase the creepy crawler type stuff in the tank.

I'n my new 40 breeder at work i have a sexy shrimp (hard to find), peppermint shrimp, blood fire shrimp, coral banded shrimp and a pistol shrimp. will add a skunk cleaner when i find a bigger one. No problems so far. but if any develop i'll let you know. Actually the coral banded shrimp molted yesterday which is a good sign.

Coral banded are buttholes. Mine always nipped at everything it never stoped ever. i gave and away. i like cleaner shrimp though. everytime i put my hand in my 180 it always trys to clean my hand. lol

I like my skunk cleaners too for that. the first time I put my hand in the tank after they were introduced, one of them immediately jumped on and started cleaning. That was the weirdest thing but just too cool.

I would love to 86 my coral banded too. That shrimp is a pest IMO. Heck I even dropped 5 or 6 silversides in the tank after lights out and everybody except him went after them. The cleaners and the snails (don’t remember the name) were all over them in 30 seconds but the coral banded was just trying to catch a shrimp. I know this guy is a fish eater. He is getting way to big.

My comment would be keep an eye on that cowrie. Tigers are not always reef safe and can end up snacking on soft corals and possibly other inverts. You may want to look into getting a few money/gold ring cowries as they stay smaller and considered for the most part feef safe.
I have a pincoushin/tuxedo urchin and a purple reef lobster as well. Urchin is safe but likes to pick up and bulldoze anything not glued down. The lobster you may want to target feed once or twice a week with crab pellets to keep him from going after snails or other critters. So far that has worked for me.

Some cowries are poisonous so need to make sure you are getting the non-poisonous ones. Also, IME, most peppermint and fire shrimps are nocturnal and you will never see them. If you see them during the day (or at all), consider yourself lucky.

:)

i have a money. there cool but only really come out at night. I once had a tiger too. that thing would knock everything over. they are strong enough to rearrange rock too.

I have a CBS (giant jerk) but I've had him since he was the size of a quarter so I can't see myself getting rid of him. They Grow really FAST.

I also have a Blood red, some peppermints, and half dozen skunk cleaners. The shirmp all hang out with each other except the CBS. My biggest fear is one of my clowns will end up eating one of my shrimp. They like their cleanings, but get very evil once they lay down their eggs. They will even chase the Naso out of their cave.

NC2WA - are you sure you're not confusing cowries with cone snails? Cowries aren't poisonous but the cones are.

Some posters have complained that their purple lobsters are obnoxious predators which go after a variety of species including other shrimp.

OH, you can bet on that Les, especially when they go into pre-ecdysis and Spiny Lobsters are the worst.
