I put a post on here a while ago about issues with red algee and pretty much narrowed it down to the tap water I was using. The next question is can this tap water be causing my inverts to die? I have lost 3 pepermint shrimp and 2 hermit crab and a snail so far. The funny this is all my fish are doing great and my corals are having no problems at all. The only coral I have lost is my acro and I believe that is because I couldn't give him enough lighting. If the water is causing Cayo can it also be killing my inverts or am I missing something here? please help
oh and the new tank has been running for about 3 months, the old tank was running for over a year and the 1st shrimp died when I shifted over.

i was thinking that if it was used maybe there was some sort of mild contaminate from the previous owner that was killing your inverts like maybe trace amounts of copper or something to that effect. i would sugest using ro di if you can and see if that helps if it does then you know it is the tap water

I think Shanon is steering you in a good direction here.

Copper and lead typically come from customer pipes themselves, although my water company (MWRA) recently stated that they may add copper to a reservoir to reduce algae growth. In water quality reports, you need to be aware of what is being tested: a reservoir, water entering the supply pipes, or water leaving customer taps. Obviously, the last is what you really care about, but typically only copper and lead are tested this way. Other compounds are tested elsewhere in the system.

There's also a link on that article to help you get your local water report.
