Okay, so I'm happily reading along and someone tosses out a comment about "horror stories" they've heard about overdosing with iodine. As if I'm not worried about this small ocean sitting in my frontroom enough!

I've recently started dosing with Lugol's Plus (according to the instructions on the bottle) and now I'm worried about overdosing.

Can anyone tell me what I should be on the look out for?

If you ever feel that you are overdosing Iodide always take the precaution and pick up some Polyfilter pads for 9.99 at your LFS.. This helps take Iodide out of the system and they are great to use every once in awhile.

i dose lugols and have never had any problems. i typically take the more of anything is a good thing which is really not a good moto in this hobby, however, ive never had a problem with lugols or other iodide producuts though. based on my experiences im not sure what all the paranoia is about. but hey, each his own and my own is that lugols works for me.

I can't say how much good the Lugol's has done - I originally got it at the suggestion of our fish store to help our cuelerpa (never can spell that right) grow, and now it seems to have almost disappeared completely. However that could have something to do with the fact that my nitrate test seems to have gone belly up and was reading 15 - 20 when the in-store test said more like 5 - 8. Oh well, the fish will like getting a little more food in the morning. :)

I can't say the Lugol's has done any harm, either, but I've only been using it for about a month.

I read the link. :) Thanks.

Can't say it increased my paranoia level just confirmed that, in this sport, everybody has had a bad experience with something!

For anyone dosing Iodine, I would like to know why you feel you need to dose? Also, do you test for iodine to be sure you aren't over supplementing?

Chemistry is certainly not my strong suit, but it appears that iodine dosing is a debatable topic. Some aquarists swear by the results they see, and others don't report any differences.

My question, more to myself, is how can we know how high the levels can get before problems arise?
