Is a protein skimmer needed for a FOWLR Tank?

I have a 75 gallon being set up as a FOWLR tank. I have a Cannister and a HOB filter. If no corals will I need a protein skimmer?

Welllll.... You never really NEED a skimmer. You can just do large regular water changes. It's good for water quality to have one, but if you don't have any sensitive corals, that won't be as critical.
It looks like you have an RBTA though? If so, then yes. I think you should have one.

I would completely replace the canister with a nice skimmer.

here's the question....
how much do you like doing water changes and scrubbing algae??
if you dont mind doing both every week, then you might be just fine...
but if you want better water quality, and want to be able to feed your fish heavily,
then you should get a skimmer and run carbon 24/7 on your tank.
it doesnt have to be uber expensive...200-300 and you have a nice skimmer.

thanks for the feedback. Jag3534 I do have a skimmer on the tank with the RBTA. I've been using canisters and HOB filters for so long that I am still trying to get my brain around skimmers and sumps. I like the thought of less algae and water changes.
What should I be looking for in a skimmer for a 75 gallon tank? I dont have a sump but would like to get one. I'm cycling it right now with a cannister and hob filter. Budgets kinda tight right now so not looking to spend a whole lot. used systems would be fine.

eshops makes a good H.O.T. skimmer that is around $149

My philosophy is --- remove what you can --- skimmers yes !

If you don't remove it, it will be converted to Nitrate and other DOC's.

Filter the water with carbon and some Phosban --- at least until the natural process is well under way with live rock and algae.
