I bought the calcium strontium tablets and I just tested my water with a salifert calcium test. Its off the charts and probably 550-650. I have a toadstool that just doesnt seem to want to be happy. Could this high level of calcium cause him trouble?

Im going to add more alk (buffer) to try to chase away so much calcium. Thats the easiest way to lower it besides giving it time, right?

What else could be affected by such abnormally high levels of calcium?

John,
You dont want to rush anything, not even an imbalance fix. Jumping your alk up is not going to just drop your ca. Dont dose anything unless you can test for it.

What are all your parameters PH Temp CA Alk Salinikty and Mg.
If we know these we can help you set up a plan to get everything into balance.

Leathers really dont use calcium John, but you are screwing up the ionic balance of the rest of the elements in the water and thats probibly whats got it mad at you.
As a general note high calcium will inhibit tissue growth in corals, the corals has methods to deal with it but the higher level you run the harder it must work and that can create stress.

I would water change yourself out of the problem instead of alking your way back.

John,
What sometimes happens with high calcium is you get clumping in your Sand bed or a armature from power heads failing due to ionic exchange. Those are physical symptons that tell you that your calcium is percipitating at a fast rate trying to stablize. Like Mike said water changes...allow your self about 4 hours and test again.
