Is my Brain Coral reproducing by budding?

The appendage on the left side of this brain has a hard center in it. As you can see it is still attached to the main coral, and as far as I know, there was no trauma or damage to the main coral to cause a piece to break off.

it is a reproductive/daughter satellite indeed... perhaps caused by injury.

Regardless.. a calcareous nodule has formed inside of this bud. It will grow in time and then break away to be free-living like its parent :)
