Whats the difference between K fluoride and K iodide?

Thanks
Don

Is this a trick question Don :)

Potassium fluoride = KF
Formula weight = 58.097 grams /mole

One way to make potassium fluoride is to react the hydroxide with hydrofluoric acid. The resulting salt can then be purified by recrystallization.

KOH(aq) + HF(aq) KF(aq) + H2O(l)

While not a normal route of preparation because of the expense, potassium metal reacts vigorously with all the halogens to form potassium halides. So, it burns with fluorine, F2, to form potassium(I) fluoride, KF.

2K(s) + F2(g) 2KF(s)

Potassium Iodide = KI
Formula weight = 166.003 gams / mole

One way to make potassium iodide is to react the hydroxide with hydroiodic acid. The resulting salt can then be purified by recrystallization.

KOH(aq) + HI(aq) KI(aq) + H2O(l)

While not a normal route of preparation because of the expense, potassium metal reacts vigorously with all the halogens to form potassium halides. So, it burns with iodine, I2, to form potassium(I) iodide, KI.

2K(s) + I2(s) 2KI(s)

In short they are the same, one being iodide and one being fluroide. Both are Halogens and related to Chloride and Bromide, also Halogens. They all act similar in water.

This will help you somemore if it related to this hobby

I found some suppliments one is the fluoride and the other is iodide. The iodide is a addition to Zeovit and is successful in bring out the blues. K-Iodide I think logol's, but not sure. K-flouride I thought was a acid but also unsure.

Either Don will dissociate quickly in water, leaving free ions, that may or may not get hydrated.

Lugols’ solution contains a mixture of I2 and I-. I2 is molecular iodine and I- is iodide. The iodide is in the K form.

5% iodine (I2) and 10% potassium iodide (KI) in distilled water with total iodine content of 130 mg/mL.

Potassium fluoride is used in glass etching and makes an acid in water.
