hi boomer :
is the kalk (construction tipe) that we usa as material to build concrete homes, is the same that regular kalkwasser that we use in our aquariums?
CaO + H2O -> Ca(OH)2
kalk ( construction tipe )= oxid calcium, when we add water = hidroxid calcium
is that right ???

thanks
pedro

Its not food grade and usually has all sorts of other things we dont want.

CaO is calcium oxide (lime or quicklime) and Ca(OH)2 is calcium hydroxide (slaked lime). Kalk is calcium hydroxide, so it is not the lime we use in concrete, which is calcium oxide. However, there is food grade calcium hydroxide and food grade calcium hydroxide. When calcium oxide reacts with a small amount of water, as you posted, it forms Ca(OH)2. When in a large vol of water it disassociates to Ca + + 2 OH. So, although I doubt you grade is good enough, without an assay, some do use CaO, only a food grade as Don pointed out.
