This is the last lighting question I will ask before I make the leap. I have a tank that is 24"w by 20"d by 18"h. Approx 35 gallons.

I was going to get a 24" Tek Light T5 Hood with 4x24w/T5 bulbs but found a good deal on a Maristar 24" 1x150watt Double ended 1 MH with 2x24w/T5.

If I get the Maristar will it make a difference on what I will be able to keep in the tank or will I be just cooking my water and supporting the electric company?:D

Aloha,
Jon

go for the mh dude. 150watts is small for a 20" deep tank. it is perfect for everything. no need to upgrade lighting in the future. ..plus one mh bulb is suppose to cover a 24*24" section. it works perfect fro you

i have a 250mh over 10g. ..you are not cooking ur tank

I doubt it will make a difference in what you can keep.
I read somewhere the PAR on the 24" Tek is roughly the same more or less as a 150 HQI. So between the two, I'd look to make a decision based such as (among other things) on whether I want the shimmer of the MH or total tank coverage look of the the T5.

what i like with the the T5 or Tek is the bubl configuration. Wherein you can actually choose your overall kelvin temp.

Either way, its a good choice and you wont be sorry.

Hey, you can always ask questions here... It doesnt need to be the last.

So I thought about this more last night and it looks like from the responses it will not make a difference in what I can keep in the tank?

For me if it comes down to the Maristar making my water shimmer it does not seem to be a good trade off for the enery saved and possible heat generated.

The Maristar fixture has a Double ended 1 MH and two 24w T5 bulbs for a total of 198w vs the 96w of the Tek light.
