leaking tank?

What is the best product to use to fix a leaking glass tank? The leak is in my sump tank. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Drain it, dry it, and use aquarium safe silicone caulk. Be sure the surfaces are clean and you allow enough time for the caulk to cure properly (see directions on packaging).

How will I know if it is aquarium safe? Will it say on the package? Any suggestions for silicone to use?

The safe ones cure with vinager instead of I think its called acetone. You can get it at lowes as well. It says on the label safe for aquariums.

Screw Petco They Charge Way Too Much. Besides I Use To Run Their Saltwater Dept. For 3 Years. Early 92-95. After That They Went To Crap
The Way They Treat Fish Is In Humane. I Will Never Support That Does Float The Bags Long Enough To Get Them All In Tanks Then Dump. That Was Petco Polcy. Couldn't Treat Fish With A Simple Ich Cure ( On Shelf). And Water Changes. What Water Changes. They Have The Highest Fish Mortality Rate For Saltwater Tropicals. ( Thanx Bill Roberts, Seattle Aquarium, For All Your Help Those Years)
Any How Goto Fred Meyers They Have Dap Aquarium Sealent Clear In Paint Section. Never Hurts Top Have 2 On Hand.

Just my opinion here, but I wouldn't suggest generalizing that all Petcos are bad based on your experience. There are some that do a good to marginal job given what they have to work with. They are just fine for dry goods if you are willing to pay a slight mark up. I'm not associated with them or any other store, but I have had fish from Petco do just fine and fish from other "specialist" stores die (and vice versa). You just have to know what you are looking for and be prepared to walk away if you don't think the fish or coral is healthy.

I Don't Think You Undestood It Was Not A Store Policy It Was Corporate Policy. If You Look At Most Petco's Now At Least Seattle/tacoma Area. They Are Phazing Out Saltwater All Together. At Least Most Reputable Lfs
Take More Time In The Acclimation Process. Which Is In The Health Of Live Stock.

well the one here in spokane s.hill is the only petco I goto good clean tanks that and they will hold the fish for me too

The one in Lynnwood isn't too bad either. I haven't seen anything that I wouldn't expect to see at one of the specialty pet shops. Be that as it may, your experience is your own and I love seeing peoples opinions and experiences, but I don't feel it is fair to say that because one, two, or 30 stores in the Sea-Tac area are representative of all Petcos across the world (this is a board and forum contributed to by people from around the world, not just Puget Sound, WA).

Anyway, not an attack on you gobie and it doesn't seem you took it that way (I'm glad). Just a reminder for everyone who contributes.

Hey I Understand, I Just Threw Out A View From My Expierence With Petco. It Gave Me A Apreciation For The Small Lfs Out There Who Really Try. There Is One In Lakewood They Have Been Around For 12 Years Now And Recently Moved. I 've Had A Long Relationship With Them, And It Seems They Have Bitten Off More Than They Can Chew. The Other 2 That Are Close By Have A Better Live Stock Selection And Dry Goods. I See Him Starting To Go The Same Direction As The Hidden Reef, Aqua Images,noonan's And Seriously Saltwater. They Hate All The Dotcom Industry And Wont Support Any Of The Local Aquarium Clubs Because Of All Of Us Being Dotcomers. Just Another View

I use Silicone 1 not two, It will work fine & is cheaper.

Just go to the local hardware store and buy some silicone 1. Much cheaper... THe key is that it smells like vinegar and does not have the anti-mildew additive. That and a caulk gun (or whatever you call a caulk gun these days) should hook you right up for much cheaper than the silicone you will find in a pet store.

So I went to buy some silicone 1 for the leak and I found one that did not say "do not use for aquariums" and i asked a person working there if it would be ok. they said all of their silicone will kill fish. would it be ok if i bought the one that does not have a warning against using for aquariums. Does anyone have any specific brands?

Yes I do DAP makes aquarium sealant, its call DAP Aquarium Sealant. LOL
AllGlass makes Aquarium sealant its called AllGlass aqurium silocone.
If you use any other kind it has acetone in it. Aquarium silocone cures with vinager.
The DAP kind at LOWES is 3.69 for a squeze tube
the All glass kind is 12.99$ at the very extrodinarly high priced LFS. I love them to death but they are killing me. It looks like they could get stuff on the web, double what they have in it and still sell it for less than they do now. I am starting to get upset about it. LOL

P.S. just because it doent say not for use on aquariums it is not safe, I think you already know that or you would of just used it. LOL
If it is safe it will be more expensive and say FOR AQUARIUMS in big letters because that is what it is for.
Unless you are one of the people who will risk 1000s of $s of fish to save 2 bucks I would recomend you use the aquarium kind.
I dont know why people try to save 2-3 bucks in this hobby, Save 50$ Im all in. 2 bucks and there is no point in it.
Again this is MY opinion and I am at least halfway insane. LOL

Make sure it is without the microban...I know a good 50-100 reefers that are currently using this stuff. No deaths yet
