Leather Coral Necrosis

I found a leather coral today that had fallen beneath a ledge and was not getting adequate light or flow. The entire middle of the coral had decayed, exposing the spicules and leaving a black slime.

I want to be sure that this is just from the improper conditions, not from any sort of disease. I did not attempt to frag off the healthy parts since this coral is overrunning my other tanks. I removed the leather and the rock it was sitting on. It was not very attached at all. Most of the underlying sections had died.

Here are some photos. They arent great, but hopefully you can tell me what Im seeing.

Let me guess....this was a yellow Fiji leather and not a regular brown one

Nope, it was a plain old beige one. Ill get a picture of the rest tomorrow. I have a few of the yellows, all doing fine. Ive had this particular coral for several years now. Probably at least 5.

Here is a shot of the coral holding that has both. Not the tank that has the necrotic one, but it gives you an idea of what kinds of corals Im keeping.

This is about 2 years old.
