Has anyone tried using LED's to grow macro?

I found rio taam has a 10 watt LED fixture think that would be enough to grow macro algae?

the fuge chamber isn't very big about 6"wide by 12.5" deep by 12" by 8" tall.

its like a 7500 K light

We have had ours for about two months now and the macro algae is really taking off. Ours is too big for your application but the question was whether LED would grow the algae or not and in our case it is doing just fine with a lot less heat and energy spent.

I tried with a 3-led set that was meant to be submersible, but had no luck. Probably the wrong kind of led was in the unit? It should work if you're using quality led's with high enough output.

I have one of those over my refugium right now. I just put it over it. It is nice to hear that it is doing well. EWW are you growing chaeto or is it a different macro.

We have Chaeto, Grape Caulerpa, Caulerpa Mexicana and Halimeda all in the fuge. All seem to be doing well. I thought we had die off but it was only that it took a little white to take off and it looks black under this grow light instead of green. It's healthy and growing quickly now.

I am currently using a Rio Minisun LED clip on with good success....also have another LED light that I will use for fuge once I change sump/fug layout.

Yeah I would think the LED's would work just fine, especially with all the positive reviews they are getting with the people who posted here before me :)

If they can be used to grow coral :) I don't think the macro would complain. Just make sure that you are giving them the right par, from experience I notice that chaeto like a reader shade and redder plants like a bluer/greener shade of light. It might be just me though.
