Woohoo! Due to popular demand, we now have a new forum, dedicated to Zoanthids!

So, lets see what you have! Brown ones, green, orange, purple....It is almost Halloween, hand out some Eye Candy.

If you are new to Zoanthids, please take the time to read the thread, Let's Talk About ~Reefkeeping Dangers~. It mentions caution when working with this coral.

Wow, looking forward to some great pictures and more info! That reefkeeping dangers thread sent me to the store for gloves when I first read it -- no sense taking those kinds of risks!

Oh I love these things. I am getting to the point that I like them better then SPS for sure. I really need to start up that Zoo tank, 24" cube with a 150w HQI on it, or a 250 mogul.

Heh, I used to love them, until they started encroaching on my sps, then they became a weed. I'm still trying to rid myself of mine, have to scrape a few polyps off now and then.
I think a dedicated zoa/shroom tank would be a fantastic system. Medium light, high nutrient tollerance, no large flow requirements no major Ca/Alk consumption. Could make for a very nice and simple tank.

I agree that they can become a pain with SPS, that is totally why I want to start a separate system just for them and ricordia

I just tore down my zoanthid tank to remove a few things. One was the sand bed and the other was to remove the mushrooms that started popping up.
They would suddenly appear and start covering the zoanthids.
Won't the ricordia do the same thing?
I got all my zoo's in my 180g. It is stuffed to the gills. I gotta get the 40 back up.
Heres a few more pics

Ricordia are pretty slow growing in my experience. I don't target feed them, and they do eat meat. I like them equally well, but I am sure that if they started to take over a little Kalk sandwitch would do the trick :D

This should be a great forum. I have a 55 gallon all zoo tank and hope if I can get my camera working to shoot some pics of my zoos. I just got two blue zoo rocks in :)

Great idea for the forum!

Finn, you have amazing Zoos! I really really like the pinkish ones with the yellow skirts.... Your tank must be super bright and cheery :) I have some orange with orange zoos and they are happy looking little guys :)

Here are some of my guys. These are the colors that my Foxface dosn't seem to like yet :p

This one I have had for quite some time, and has been a pretty slow grower, but has been thru a lot, and even the Zoo eating Nudi's didn't seem to like these much

I had problems keeping zoanthids in my 180. For the longest time I would get nice colonies and they would be ok for a while and then almost over night they would disappear. One day I caught my blue hippo tangs in action. They were ripping out polyp after polyp and spitting them out.
Now I have a separate tank for zoanthids only and I am hesitant to add any fish.
Did add a lawn mower blennie, but took him out when he started looking a little thin.
I would like to find a really small one, but thats all I'll put in a zoanthid tank.
