Let's Talk About ~Aquascaping~

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

I my 135 gal tank I have the rock suspended on acrylic dowels drilled into a 1/2" plate of Acrylic. It sits on the botton under the rock and I adjust the heights and placement of the dowel to fit the shape of the rock. This is a big plus because the fish can dig under the rock without having it fall on them and also allowing water movement under them at the same time. I found that all the brittlestart like to hide under each one. Some of the fish hide out there at night to sleep.
Does anyone glue the rock together instead of using tie raps and glue or tie rapping all the way around.
Mike, I liked your idea of doweling to support ledge material!

Curt, Neat link!!!!
Even though I live in the same city as Maxx, I can assure you we had no prior conversation regarding this thread. However, I look at the pics he provided and see a proportional aquascaping that follows the proportional rules in my link.
Uh huh...wink wink, nudge, nudge.
Nope, no collaboration here.
BTW found another pic of a tank which has some interesting aquascaping. This guy also runs a homebased coral farm www.robsreef.com

I like how his aquascaping is non traditional. Personally, I would probably widen out the base of these towers a little, but thats just me. I like the look though.

How does everyone chose which live rock they use? Shape, porousity, cost? What about diversity - do you want to have more than one type of rock?

Nikki,

I pick out appealing shapes and colors, cost is just a minor factor in this hobby :). In my minds eye I put together the tank as I collected the rock (from the box that Liveaquaria.com sent me) then I break out the hammer and chisel to make it perfect. Then I tear it down to make it better, then again to make it more stable. Finally I say thats enough and leave it.

This is a great topic, whew I have some reading to catch up on. I will need to look at these when I move my 100g tank.
