I was wondering if this light was to high to meet the lighting requirements of the anemones. Its a current usa sun pod 150w metal halide on a 20 gallon long. The fixture is approximately 14" from the surface of the water and the tank is 12 inches deep.

IMO you are better off having that light higher off the tank than the normal 4-8'' because of the heat it will put off. You have a better chance of keeping the water temp in check at that height.
Not real sure on how your livestock will do, just watch them for a few weeks and see how they react. I think it will be fine.

well, one thing i would do is take that hunky looking leaded glass out from underneath it, your cutting a crapton of par right there.
i would say that 6" to 12" would b better as well, it is a little high...
you shouldnt have to do anything more than add a fan worst case scenario to a 150w.

Also, that's a 70w HQI Justin, not the 150w which is IMO it should be a lot lower.

Thanks Krish i could remember what you said it was when i was posting, nothing was on the bulb or the fixture and thats all i could find online LOL!

Yea, the 70w was what they came with back then with the optional upgrade to the 150w. I ended up getting the 150w, but gave it to a buddy when I tote down the tank and just kept the 70w.

Right on top of the tank!. I had dual 250w metal halides only 9 inches above my water's surface on the 75 gal. Too high and you will loose too much par especially with it being only 70w HQI.

I have one 150w mh double ended, in my jbj, and its only 2 inches from my water surface. And my temp during the day and night goes from 78 to 76 degrees, never less, never more.

Looks cool! But um, I don't know if you will have any issues or anything, but I had a 250 watt hallide that I layed on a glass shelf like that over my fish tank...and sure enough, the heat from the hallide snapped the glass right in half....but luckily I have very mediocre building skills and jimmy rigged a mount coming out from the wall...but only after my yelled at me for breaking one of her glass shelves. =/ lol
