I am currently working on a new 35 gallon hex tank (reef). I'm wondering if anyone knows what the best lighting would be for this set up? I also have a 100w UVA/UVB flood lamp that is used for reptiles and birds. Do you think this could be used in any way? I know the 100w will not be sufficient enough alone, but in addition to something else?

I bet a 175 watt pendant MH. Would do wonderful. Or corallifes 20 or 24" compact flor. The legs slide in rails and can be fit to any tank it will fit across. HTH. Steve

I have a MH 175 pendant over my 30 gallon hex reef, and everything in the tank is doing great. I have 1 RBTA, 3 monti cap frags (not staying in there permanently), a cup coral, two bubble corals, a leather coral, green star polyps and various mushrooms, along with a yellow tang (also temporary) and a small purple pseudochromi (I think) and 2 shrimp.

I would suggest shelling out the extra for a nice pendant on a line that raises and lowers. Really makes things easier!

I'd light a 35 hex with a single 250 watt MH in a preference of either 20k or 10k, with a small actinic for dawn/dusk.
