I have a ballast (TAR I believe) that is designed to light 2 - 36" (30 watt) bulbs. I wired it all up and it worked fine for about 4 hrs. The next day the ballast started to smell and one of the lights (FR30T12-Atinic White) started to flicker. I have ordered the ICECAP 430 to replace the ballast. Is there anyway I can make the current system work until the new ballast comes in and I build a new hood.

Thanks.

I would have to physically see the balast itself to be sure but it sounds to me like it overheated and began to loose some of it's insulation capabilities. Therefore creating a possible serious problem. I personally would turn that balast off, I have seen bulbs explode if the insulation completely gives out and causes a complete short!

JMHO

I would not run that thing anymore either, just not worth the risk.
