I am looking to add some secondary lighting to my tank. I already have a dual satellite 4x65 watt lighting system--but would light to brighten things up just a little.

I have looked at metal halides--which are expensive and bulky for what I am looking at. What about straight halogens and with a 45 gallon tank--what kind of wattage would I need? I am looking a halogen bulb that can get as close to 20000K as possible. This light fixture would only be on for about 4 hours a day or so, but would need to clamp onto the back or side of the tank.

Any suggestions?????

Anne

Halogen bulbs are not nearly as efficient as anything else used in the hobby. Also the spectrum is around 3.5 K. I have seen them used with good results in refugia and also to provide glimmer lines in a huge fish only tank, but on a normal tank they would most likely promote algae growth.
