Are 2 250w halides and vho actinics enough light for a clam at 30" deep? Don't have a clam yet, am contemplating whether to get one.

I keep 6 of them under 2 250s with vhos at 24 inches I would think you will be fine but you could always place them up higher on a rock.

you should be fine but a Crocea or Maxima would like it better a little closer to the lights

I agree. VHO lamps do not penetrate that deep. Only the MH. Raising clams will help.
