lighting

hi guys let me throw this one in, do you recomend full lighting for a 8 hours and then go down to half lighting for about 4 hours before they all go of or full lights for 12 hours i was reading someone else feed back and thought it could be a good idea plus save money on the electric as well.

I have the same question. I’m currently running on the heavy side, I think. I have 4 compacts. 2 day light and 2 Actinic blue on my 65 gallon. Actinic blue are on around 8am and off at 10pm. daylight lighting is on at 9am and off at 8pm. I have some brown algae on the sand along with some small green patches.

Some people do 2 hours of actinics before all the lights cut on and then let it run for 2 hours after all the main lights cut off which allows the fish to adjust in the morning to the lighting and then wind down at night. Just a thought

i normally have my lights on for about 9am till 10pm and thought would it make a great difference if i turn off a couple before the lights out,would it make difference on where the lights are in on my balast ie 4 tubes how i have set up is white then blue then white then blue or could i have blue blue then white white if you follow

Right now I go 10hrs full light and the corals seem to like it best. Alot depends on your tank and lighting. Starting next week I'm going to change things around. The lights are gong to start 32" above the water and drop 1" every ten minutes for almost 4 hours then stay 8" for 5 Hours the go back up 1" every ten minutes for 4 hours. If nothing else it should make for a nice viewing period.

How do you have that rigged up, Don? Is it automated? Sounds pretty interesting. I was wondering about a halide pendant on a track that moved left to right (or the opposite) slowly, to simulate the arc of the sun.

I have mine white blue white bule but, the whites are on one ballist and the blues on the other. All depends on how you have them wired.
