Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

I’m a bit confused. Are you adding up the Kelvin degree’s of each individual bulb or is this actually one bulb at 40,000 k? I’ve never heard of one before.

Mark In this 100 gallon tank I understand you are Planing on using 4 lamps in a 10K kelvin Temperature. What Kind of Bulbs are you thinking Metal halide?
How Many watt bulbs are you wanting to go with? If halide? How long is your tank? How deep is your tank ? And did I understand you want soft corals Mixed together with SPS?
Please advise....Jeff

no its 4x10,000 sorry i am in holiday mode

LOL!!! I live in stupid mode so you're fine:p As for the lighting, 10K's are actually great for coral growth so IMO, it would all depend on the type of lighting and the wattage:)

Man you guy’s type fast! :)
Jeff is asking you all the right questions.
4-10k’s are going to be pretty white though. You might want to supplement with some actinic’s for eye appeal. But don’t count them in as total watt’s needed in a daylight spectrum.

They look like Normal output (NO) flourescents to me. Although the color is right (temperature in K) I wonder about their ability to supply the ammount of light required for SPS at 21" deep.

How long are the bulbs?

Not enought Light to bottom

Mark I am worried that any sps On the bottom 1/2 of your tank would suffer from low light problems. If you went with 2 each 250 watt Metal halides you could keep any type of live stock in this tank with that IE: Clams,SPS, Anomes, ECT.
I just don't know enought about Normal Output Flouresent Lighting, I run VHO for Actinic supplment,
Do you already have the T-8 fixture? If not I strongly suggest you do more reserch before getting it.
Just my 2 cents...Jeff

Hi just a quick one is 40,000k to much for a 100 gallon mixed sps and soft coral and loads of flow.:)

Ha ha ha ha ha! That made my day! I have used the same math before, but not on lighting:)

I tried using this kind of bulbs before, then upgraded to PC, then said forget it and switched to MH. You might save yourself some time and money in the long run and go with MH right away... Just a thought.
