According to the National Climatic Data Center, there were over 750 lightning incidents/reports across the United States in 2008.

You know last year I was out in Ft. Bragg and there was a lightning strike that hit a team traveling through the woods. Only minor burns on 9 of them 3 were knocked unconscious. One of the guys that was unconscious woke up and performed CPR to resuscitate the others. No one was seriously injured.
