lime green eye favites ?

Does any one have any lime green eye favites that can comment on the best placement for this coral? As you can see in the post I made on the 18th I have a small frag that I put in my tank. In the picture you can see white tips on the brown ring. The white area seems to be increasing and I’m concerned. I have this coral low in the tank under 250MH HQI 14k bulb. It’s at least 20 inches down but looks like it’s getting too much light or is this something else?

how deep is your tank and what kind of lights do you have? I have mine sitting on a peace of title in the sand bed and it is growing very well.

Well this is a new frag and I have no idea the conditions it came from. My tank is 27 inches from the water surface to the bottom. The light is a 250 MH HQI was a 14k I just changed it out yesterday to a 20k to see if that would help. The frag is at, according to the tape measure, 21 inches from the water surface.

I have that same exact frag( well different of coarse) I have mine about middle of mine tank (24 height tank) but I have 8 T5 bulbs over it and I might move mine lower to see how that works with it but mine isnt whiting like yours is

Well I just took a close look at it after the big lights turned off and it almost looks like the brown ring in some places is now turning green? What’s up with that? It still has some white in places but after 24 hours with 20k it almost looks like some of the white is now turning green where it started out brown. Can this think change color like that?

I was told to put mine in the sand bed and that they don't need high light. That sounds like it is the new growth . it grows out white then the green eyes will start to show up, then it stars to darken up around the eyes. You can spot feed them when the lights go out and some people have luck teasing it when the lights are on to get it to open up but I have not had much luck with that.

It has tentacles?
I have not seen any changes. All my lights have been off for 30 minutes now and I will keep a close eye tonight and see if anything happens.

As a matter of fact there are tentacles. Whadayuknow. It looks like the tentacles are mostly coming from the green center and it looks like the center has swollen.

yeah in the center of the green spots u see a little mound and thats where there tenticles come from i believe, mine start to come out about 45 to 1 hr or so and everynow and then i feed my coral at night.

Each one of the mouth has feeder tenticles, and normally will come out at night. I had one that stayed puffy all day long, with partial tenticle. But keep an eye on it. The switch from 14k to 20k can cause the green to stand out a little more. That is why I like the 20k's. Hope this guy works out for you though it seems like a really nice piece.

I would also look at the amount of flow that it is in. I know that you keep your water parameters good but I would just double check everything. Because that looks to be the beginning phase of STN

I believe he is talking about soft tissue necrosis. As far as a i know same as RTN. I am sure he will follow up on Wednesday.

That would be slow tissue necrosis vs. rapid tissue necrosis.

How's your water quality - I'm also seeing a case of STN from your pictures - In many cases where I've found this with LPS its been the water quality as the cause, not the lighting. Especially since you've just recently gotten the frag, lighting (unless its stress related) would take longer to materialize.

Or - is something in your tank eating it? What fish do you have?

So I just tested the water on Sunday evening and this is what I found
Dkh 10
Ph 8.2
Nitrate undetectable
Calcium 400
Phosphate undetectable
Ammonia undetectable
Specific gravity 1.023 (I’ve been slowing raising this from 1.020 a couple months ago since I am no longer planning on introducing any more fish)
Temp is at 78 (80 degrees today)
Water movement in the frags area is low to medium.
Position in the tank is low and under 250 watt HQI 20k bulb and 2X 96 watt 50/50 PC’s
Is STN terminal?
The LPS that I have in the tank are looking pretty good. The frogspawn every day looks a little better.

Sorry I forgot to answer the fish question. I have not seen anything even pecking at it at all. Maybe the lawnmower brushes across it when he is sliding across the rocks but that’s about it. All the fish in the tank should be considered reef safe. Click on my tank build thread and there is a list of fish in the tank.

Generally stn on lps favites is fatal sometimes you get lucky and one or two polyps lives but generally not.
