Good day all

I am just wondering if someone can tell me houw much die off I will get when I oder my live rock. I live in ontario canada and I am going to be having is shipped from Chino Ca. The price that I can get is right for sure I am just concerned about the time it will take to get here. The shipping is anywhere from 1 to 6 days so I would think it will be about 3 or 4 thats how long it took to ordre something else from the south and I just want to make sure that I am not making a mistake to save money. I mean it will cost me 500.00 plus up here to get the same shipped from there for less then 215.00 I just want to make sure its a good idea

any one got any thoughts?

You will have die off fore sure. I would put it in a large container after you scrub it down. If your new tank is just that you can do it in it. Expect about 6 weeks for it to settle in. Water changes proper Ph and salt. Heat and air. Better if you can have a skimmer going. Don't try and push this!!! It is necessary. When the 6 weeks is up, seed it with cured live rock. From Chino CA it has been moved/ been shipped several times already. I would also see if anyone chimes in that have purchased from them before. See how it smells when you get it. and a day or tow after you start the process . Most "Live Rock" is 3/4+ dead from all the handeling.

so it would almost be worth it to pay the price here. I reason I say that is 50 lbs in town will be about 600.00 and from there its about 215.00 so I was hopin to save a little money ya know

I'd go ahead and save the money. Die off isn't a bad thing. It grows back. The die off also helps get your cycle going. It also will depend on the quality of the rock itself. Any die off will regrow no matter how good or bad the quality. Better quality rock will eventually have more life to it though.

I mean I think that it should be ok stuff its premium figi so I think is good stuff I just want to make sure before Ispend the money ya know

What people are saying is that is will be OK to order the rock and that regardless of where you get it from you should expect it to have some die off. The question was raised about the quality of the rock as better rock will provide for better growth within the rock over time.

The other point was that you can "seed" the rock that was shipped to you with some locally bought live stuff...just a nice piece or two would introduce the organisms to your tank and existing rock and will ensure that all your rock eventually has good growth...and like people said doing this during the cycle period is probably best.

sounds good I have about 13 lbs in there right now that I have had in there since I got the tank set up so that should do it I think. I just have to figure out how much I want in ther and try and keep room for fish
