So i read that every time you add new live rock to your tank you should treat for flatworms is this true this is first time ive heard of this...

always good to qt your live rock i like the method that Walt Smith uses where he has it sitting on a crate with sprinklers washing it and all the bad stuff falls down under the crate. only bad part does not help with aptisia or majano

I never have.
I'll look at the rock, check it out, look for anything major. If I do see anything, then yeah, I'll treat it.
If it's uncured rock I might leave it in a tub to cure for a few weeks.
But regular clean cured rock, I just add to the tank.

I'd say if your concerned about your lr then just leave it in a tub or pail for a couple of weeks.

But as Finn asked, why QT lr? What is on the lr will stay even during QT periods.

Cheers,
Alex

leaving in a tub for a few weeks and qting the rock is the same thing. but when stuff comes out of the rock crabs and other pest you will have less in your display to fight out then in a QT or as some will like to call it a Tub or a Pail. same thing just different containers I guess... even cured live rock has pest and I would still QT cured rock. everything should be QT IMO

Very ture with the crabs. I ended up with a gorilla crab from a bunch of lr I purchased at a LFS and I was lucky to find the little guy while the lr was in a empty tank.

Cheers,
Alex

well, like I said, if it's uncured,,, cure it or as you say qt it.
however once it's cured put it in.

you say it has pests.
what pests?

Ive seen succsesful reefs several years old be destroyed by the introduction of bad algae's or parasites. Depending on how u feel about ur reef will determe ing how big of a risk u choose to take, massive rule of thumb: qt all wet objects prior to puting in ur tank
