Friend gave me this and it split after a few weeks. It has a foot and is real small.

Looks like a small Flower or Rock Anemone.

i agree, it sort of look like a rock amenone...to bad we can't see the mouth.

do you have any idea of its origin? Atlantic or Pacific for starters?

not possible... the specimen described has a "foot" (ala anemone) and Blastomussa is a stony coral. Many cnidarian tentacles look similar... as you noticed between these distantly related examples/comparisons.

The image and info here are just too scant here to make anything more than a pot shot guess, I regret to say.

I have had a few from the Caribbean that looked identical to the description and picture. Those were called Flower anemones

Seen a few around here similar as well. May not be the same thing, but looks pretty close. I'll have to dig through some of my old pictures when I get home to see if I ever took any pics of them around here in the Bahamas
