Now that my fav store (Aquarium Concepts) has closed I now need a new LFS to go to for salt and other items that I wouldn't normally buy online. I'm looking for the closest one to my area that arent a bunch of uptight snobs who know less about the hobby than petco/petsmart employees.LOL

I have heard great things about a few LFS but unfortunately I would prefer not to drive to issaquah...etc. Can anyone recommend a good place here in the north end?

Thanks a million!

There is Jones pets which carry a large aray of salt water stuff including some corals and fish and live rock and other dry goods. I have been to yhe one in Marysville, but their main store is in Lynnwood, i think on aurora. I wouldn't relie on them for info, atleast the one in Marysville, but they carry diff salt mixes if that is what your mainly after.

Sorry the Jones in Lynnwood closed last summer. The one in Marysville is still open.
There is Pet pourri just north of K-mart on evergreen way. Not a sponsor but they do carry salt. It's tough to get quality reef stuff in the north end. Scott

Thanks for the replies, I will check out below sea level.

Yeah the Jones in Lynnwood closed. The salwater manager/employees there really sucked. One time I was in there and a customer asked an employee questions about live rock, the employee told the customer to talk to me that I would help them and knew alot about reef tanks. WTF LOL

The salwater manager/employees there really sucked.

And they moved to the Marysville store so going up there is really no different than when Lynnwood was open. I spoke with the owner of J&C about their practice, all I really got as a response was shock that I somehow knew they had a lot of shrink in their marine livestock and overall irritation that I was telling them how their store could be ran for the better. Whatever.

Another shop opened over the summer in Everett Mall Way called Aquapets. I am unsure to the address, but it is a little bit past Pep Boys as you're heading towards the mall on the opposite side of the street. They have FW and SW, some corals, a bit of LR, the guy is a tweaker but they sell DT's Phytoplankton. The store has a lot of potential mainly because the owner openly says he needs to learn and is appreciative of any feedback you give him.

It's a pity there is not a store like Blue Sierra up here. Lynnwood is enough of a retail hub now that there really should be; I think a good retail LFS could do okay. The Lynnwood Petco does alright because they have a good staff; their livestock supplier just sucks.

Thanks for the heads up broh!

I will check them out this weekend, I need to get some more salt in the least....

You can also check Denny's Pet World. I think that's the name. It's off the 124th st exit in Kirkland. They just set up their saltwater area. I haven't seen it up and running yet, but the pieces looked impressive when I was there last. I am hopeful they are serious about the saltwater portion. It looked like they may have a clam tank or SPS.

We'll see.

BY FAR - The best north end selection of quality corals, clams, and fish is at Pet Pourri on Evergreen Way just north of Kmart and Burgerking.

Geez, their fish room alone is huge, maybe 80'x80'? And their reef tank is always stocked full of heathy clams, sps, lps and softies. Good selection of dry goods too.

Be sure to check 'em out.

Petco Sucks.

That is all.

the only down fall to pet-porri is the staff is not very helpful in my opinion. and the prices are way high for corals

Pet Pourri has just started their Salt Water department several months ago, so while they're in the middle of the learning curve they're still eager students. I've made suggestions to them and they've got some very very heathy corals and good selection.

Yeah their corals aren't cheap, but who's are?

I find their prices to be in line with other east-side bellevue or issaquah stores.

$69 for a large 5-6" clam, and SPS or LPS for $60-70 is about average IMO.

Not too many places to shop in the north-end, Jones and Co in Marysville is about the only other place.

I think Below Sea Level isn't too far of a drive if you used to go to Aquarium Concepts.

I agree with most of what’s been said about Jones & Co. Pets. Except…..

That’s were I got my start in saltwater. I was looking and looking and looking, well you get the idea; when this salesperson (Linda?) comes up to me and asks if she can help me. I told her that I was interested in doing saltwater (notice the tie to doing narcotics!) she walks me over the books, grabs Fenner’s book and thrusts it into my hands. That was over a year ago.

That being said, in my year I have learned that I would never buy any livestock from them. I love Below Sea Level and easily spend 45 minuets or more in there. Of course, I’m not adverse to driving over to Kevin’s shop in Spokane either. I’m headed back to Bothell today. I have to go check out this ‘Pet Pourri.’

I've actually purchased quite a few things from Jones, both the previous Lynnwood store and now Marysville. Some of the people know more than others... But, every coral I ever purchased from them is still alive and doing just fine. As to Pet Pourri, I've purchased from them too but their prices seem very high compared to Jones. Not to mention, i'm leary of their salt tanks as we saw ich there and I think that is where I got it from.
