howdy all,
just wanted to let everyone know that im looking to open my own saltwater reef store, so if anyone happens to know of an ideal spot for lease
i would be very thankful if they could let me know. a friend of mine ownes her own property management company, who has been keeping her eyes peeled, so i've had my feelers out for a couple weeks. im open to considering locations just about anywhere in the greater seattle area, my only criteria so far being that it should be a fairly effluent neiborhood/city that would potentially contain alot of middle to upper "class" (barf) people who wont mind spending money on a luxury item like a reef tank. also, i am trying to keep it small, ie 1000 -1500 s.f.
i still have a bad taste in my mouth from the last time i did this. i was going to buy ocean view aquatics in spokane, and after the sellers and myself spent a couple thousand dollars finessing a deal out of eachother, the property owner came in and screwed up the whole thing. boy that was fun!
this time im going to vastly more cautious(hire a lawyer), and start from the ground up instead of trying to buy someone else's store. it also really helps to have a friend in commercial realestate, that has been a wealth of knowledge.
for those of you who might not recognize my user name, my real name is Mark Riemer and i have worked for blue sierra, saltwater city, and a couple stores in oregon. please feel free to contact me with any leads or advice you see fit to share. you can post here or call me at 206-933-0590.
my dream is to be able to offer another local, professional reef store that can supply people with rare, high quality, quarentiened livestock, and hard to find, high end, imported equipment, as well as our favorites that no one ever seems to have in stock.

thank you all, Mark

Good luck to you! The "American Dream" in action ;) Have you thought of the growing area in the north "Eastside"? From Woodinville/Mill Creek to snohomish is booming like crazy and if housing is a gage of effluence I think the average home is somewhere around 350-400K... I'd visit ya! ;) I'm in Kirkland

i have in fact been looking at the "north eastside", it is one of the fastest growing communities around, plus add boeing and microsoft and blammo,
instant reef market!! although it would suck commuting from west seattle.
kirkland as well would be nice if the prices didnt scare me off.

I know there are several of us reef heads in the North Eastside that would visit a shop up here. The only competition locally is Denny's Pets and Petco and neither really keeps good corals in stock and certainly not the equipment for a reef. Good luck Mark!
