Lost my fighter

Well today i was walking by the tank and noticed that my fighting conch hasn't moved for a few days. So i thought i would grab him and see what the deal is. And wow he wasn't in the shell so my guess he didn't have enough food to eat???? I had him for about 3 months or so. So this will be the second invert to die the other was a emerald crab back at start up. How long does your sand bed need to be up and running to support these guys???

Bummer Brady :doubt: As for how long your sandbed has to be up and running to support conch's etc, I couldn't say, but I figure once your water quality suits them well and there is sufficient food for them to thrive properly, then I don't think age should affect anything much, but this is just my thoughts on things. I guess those that are more experienced will chime in soon

crap mate if it wasnt in there then thats good and bad good u didnt have to smell it when it was dead cause they smell so bad and its bad cause it might foul your water unless your clean up crew got to it

ya i dont think its a matter of how much time...

I think its more a question of how deep and how much food is in the sand.

I tried keeping a fighting conch in my tank, but hermit crabs kept eating them and stealing the shell. So, make sure you have larger shells for the hermits. I was never able to keep both.

I have a 5-6 inch fighting conch that has grown from 1inch over the past 2 years. I have no sand, never did. They eat algae off the rocks and the glass.
