Couldn't I just make my own rock, put live sand in the tank, And let it cycle for a bit. Wouldn't the live sand, make the rock I make live rock?

Josh,

You could get rock from our sponser Marco Rocks. It's awesome rock and is the route I took when I setup my 180. Then, just add a few pieces of Live rock to get it all seeded.

In My opinion, the live sand in a bag is a crock! You could get a cup or 2 of live sand from someone else s tank to seed your sand bed.

True. But I checked his site he's out of stock on pretty much everything. I guess ill have to find someone with a tank around Vancouver

Check with a LFS and see if they sell Dead/Base rock

If you MAKE your own rock you will need to let it cure for weeks and weeks before you can add it to your tank

@peppie- that's true. But I'm thinking I might try to make 1 shelf like piece. Or make a base rock with a small cave like thing in it. Not sure yet

Check out Real Reef Rock. They have some nice stuff for creating shelf pieces and it's man made rock with lots of color. Used it my tank with a mix of natural live rock and I'm pretty happy with it.

I wasnt trying to sell or trade Devin, I was just offering to give it to Josh (a new reefer) some free rock. If their is any left or if he doesnt want it you can have it for sure.

@ mike or anyone wanna chime in..... Do I absolutely have to put 32 lbs of rock in my tank. I'm more looking to add different levels in my tank but still have a lot of space. I'm going to hide my equipment with black acrylic. So that would mean my tank won't be exactly 32 gallons. But more 26 to 28 gallons
