Finally got ahold of both of these pieces, interested to see the shape and development of these two similar looking pieces as they grow out.

orientalis first, monasteriata second.

Those look great. are they similar to the M. danae? I am getting a chunk of the same coloration of the M. danae on friday. Can't wait to get it into the tank. Where are you placing yours?

Chris

most likely you are getting one of those two i have pictured. folks are calling the monastriata a danae, but in all likelyhood it is not that species... danae is easier to remember... kinda like the term tort, you use it, it sticks, wether it is applicable or not.

danae usually look more like this... very different growth form. you can read up on the monastriata and the orientalis on tyree's site under the limited editions page, he has them both listed and explains the difference

my pieces came from a tank with 400's, i only run 250's, so i am keeping them in the top half for now. show us some pics when you get yours!

Krux,
I had that danae and it looked just like your picture, but after about a week it bleached out on me. It is still alive with polyp extension, but no color. Thanks for the info I will check out tyree's site.

Thanks,
Chris

Krux,
Where do you have your monasteriata placed in your tank(ie., level, lighting wise and current wise)?

Chris

mine is about 8" under water, and my lights are about 8" above the water, so 16" directly below a 250 watt hqi.

i have 4500 gph running through my 75, pretty much everywhere is high flow :)
