if anyone has one of these and could do me a huge favor...that would be great..what is the height from the floor to the top of the outfow valve if the pump is sitting flat on the floor?

I have two spares laying in the garage. I am not home right now but can get it for you. Flat on the side or flat on end?

Which side(number) you want on the floor? I think the distance from side 1 and 2 will be the same but I will check if that is the side(s) you need.

if the pump is sitting just like you have it with the outtake going up, what is the distance from the floor to the very top of the outtake valve

So the pump is actually laying on the side with no number, and output is pushing water straight up(vertical).....Correct?

correct... is that how it is supposed to sit, with the outflow straight up?

5.375" or 5 3/8" Keep in mind if this is going in a sump you will want some kind of pad under it to reduce vibration. So it will raise it slightly.

it will be sitting on the floor...should i put the foam pad under it? will it be noisy??

will it be noisy??
In my experience yes. If it is going to be external I would use a dolphin/ampmaster pump. I have the biggest dolphin. I think it is 8500 GPH and it is quieter than a mag12. If you already have the pump I would put something under it. It will help.

it is on its' way by ups right now...it comes with a foam pad..i will use thatg.. does the bottom get hot...also, why didn't you just send me one of your extras??????????:)

The foam pad or little rubber feet will work. It will generate a good amount of heat. Not sure how much because I have never ran one external. I used one to mix water in a 35 gallon container and it would heat the water to 80 over night. I run a mag 12 in my new SW container now. It runs constant in a 300 gallon tank to keep the water oxygenated and is pretty quiet. I could send you one. I found a deal about a year ago. I got two mag 12's and two mag 5's including shipping for $106 I think it was from petsolutions. I think it was a pricing mistake. I bought them (just because) I also bought a spare dolphin about 3 months ago. It is a 1800 GPH model. I got it as a spare for one of my Iwaki pumps. (it was on sale at fishsupply.com)

I ran my may950 as well as my friend ran his mag18 with the output going to the side. No problems with either one with vibration noise because we put put some "batton"/"dacron" (sp) what they use to stuff pillows with under the pumps. If you go back on that link I posted before with my closed loop, you'll see what I mean with the shot of the pump:)

i'm glad it doesn't matter how it sits..i don't want to be changing plumbing around again
