mag drive pumps

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if anyone has ever used a Mag drive pump Externally and it didnt leak. I'm looking for a cheap external pump.

I have been running a Mag12 for 16months externally without any issues whatsoever. They are quiet pumps, but they also get pretty warm.

I have used 2 externally. 1 leaked and the other didn't. They were both old pumps though that had been taken apart numerous times. I see people use them externally quite a bit though...

Really depends on the pump (model) and the application. I used a mag5 and mag7 on a Ca reactor and it ran loud and hot (a lot of back pressure on the pump). I have a mag 9.5 on my skimmer and a mag 7 for my return and they work just fine (almost no back pressure).

I have two Mag12's externally. One doesnt leak and one salt creeps like a crazy man. I wouldnt suggest buying them because all of a sudden on random days they jump my 200gal tank up 7degrees and other days they are fine, creepy little buggers
