Majanos or Aiptasia?

If these are majanos as I suspect they are does anyone know if any of the critters that work for aiptasia will work on these or do I have to go the Joes juice route? I would like to use Berghai Verrucicornis or Lysmata Wurdemanni. I have a copperband butterflyfish but he seems pretty uninterested in these guys. They may be too big for him? some of them are at least 2cm in diameter.

I can not see them good enough, But because of the red tips suspect they are not majano. Most copperbands I've had will eat majano, even those larger than themself.

Mojano anemones usually do not have pointy ends like that. Usually they are subby. So i will say the first pic is of an aptasia beacuse of that. However, aptasia also really doesn't have red tips like that, and is more so translucent peach/cream. Either way, I'd nuke em, too. Kalk paste, lime juice, or Joe's Juice. I've never tried Joe's Juice, but heard it works.

First this is not a flame. It is my opinion.

Do you like the way they look in your tank? Are they spreading and causing your other tank inhabitants problems? You should decide if YOU like them. It is after all your tank. Too many on all the boards just blindly follow the group and do not decide for themselves what they like.

Interesting you would bring that up. Because I was thinking that I really like the green ones and there are only a few, so they will probably stay. However, the red tipped ones have really gotten out of hand and they seem to multiply daily. I actually think they look kind of cool but there is just so many I'm starting to worry that they will start causing problems.

I've never personally had majanos, but I have to admit that the first time I saw them in a tank, I thought they were pretty cool looking. That kind of changed though when I saw the tank again several weeks later and they had spread quite a bit. If you can keep ahead of their spreading, they are attractive for a something so many people consider a pest. (But I know people who like to keep mantises too, so to each their own, huh?)

I really wanted to try to go the natural route, that's why I got the Copperband Butterfly (that and it looks great too) but one of the questions I was looking for here was if the same things that go after aiptasia. Anyone know the answer to that? I'd like to try the nudibranch and pass him on when he cleans house.

I have to go with the "they are cute so far" idea. I have had a majano for since last November (green type) and have feed it faithfully since day one. It is now the size of a silver dollar. When I was told it was a pest we were to attached and continued to feed our "pest". We may be sorry someday but for now he is loved and very well cared for.

I was just in the LFS and saw tons of the one in the first picture. They were identical with the red tips and all. I bet they do spread fast because there were lots of single ones here and there - but then there were rocks that had whole colonies on them, too.

Just like weeds they are! Those red ones double every time I move my display around. Now I have to agree with MCSInc~Candy on the green ones; mine are about the size of quarters now and there are only about 6 of them in one localized spot, they have not multiplied it's always been that way so they will probably stay. As for the weeds they must go one way or the other :evil: Nudibranches, anyone have info on the nudibranches?

If you are interested in finding Berghia, here is a link to Inland Aquatics - Cultured Invertebrates You may want to shoot them a call and find out if they have any in stock.

I've tried to search around to find some other places that may sell them, but have come up short (as far as online vendors go). Maybe someone else will jump in with another place that also cultures berghia.

Yes you can. Pickling lime is same as Kalk. Food grade vs analytical grade.

hehe I remember thinking my Aiptasias were pretty cool when I just had 2 of them, teling myself "I'll get around to killing them eventually..."

Now they arn't so cool anymore, and I don't think I'll ever be able to kill them off completely .
