Every once in a while my mandarin dragonette will spew a cloud of white stuff into the water. I wish I could get a picture of it but I never know when he's about to blow.

Any idea what it could be? Is he trying to get it on with the female mandarin? He used to do this even before I added her. Very strange...

Heheh... ok well I won't post any videos. I just always thought this was strange behavior. I mean, don't fish usually try to find a mate before they behave this way? Assuming that's what's going on...

is it after she takes a bite to eat? she could just be expelling waste that is sucked in when she eating.

It's not a she, it's a he. I haven't been able to determine a pattern, or even see where the "cloud" is coming from. It looks like it comes out the top of the fish but that's crazy talk.

the have 2 blow holes on the top of his head. that is most likely where the discharge is comming from.

I dont believe its is a reproductive discharge. just when sucking up a food item he may have got a bit of detritious and expelled through his vents. I do not believe that the vents on top of their heads is a reproductive tool. could be wrong but lets see what steve has to say.

When mandarins reproduce they float up together, fan their fins, and let their stuff go. the larva will ride the currents far away from the parents. or at least thats what they showed on a high def program.

That's what I do too... Steve?
