I have a customer that says he has marine velvet.
He has not added any new fish in over 2mths.

Where can I read about how it is contracted..or can you help?

It is possible to import Amyloodnium on live rock or even with some inverts if they are taken from a tank with infected fish. Otherwise, I doubt the diagnosis is accurate.

Although the article in the link below is about Ich and not velvet, the section about the hyposaline-transfer method applies. You can call this treatment for Amyloodinium experimental because it has not been scientifically tested at this point. However, I have spoken to two of the top authorities in the world on external marine fish parasites and they both told me that this treatment should work, at least in theory, for Amyloodinium. They both wanted me to test it, but I do not have the funds or the time for a study like this. Until someone in the farmed fish industry (food fish) is willing to fund the project it will remain untested under strick laboritory conditions.

The traditional treatment is copper. Cupramine is the only copper that I can recommend. The level should be tested twice a day. A less known treatment is using Chloroquine phosphate and the reports on it have been encouraging.

Cheers,
