Is there such a clam? What other hybrids are there? No definitive answers found on other forms or google. Hoping to get a definitive answer here. Thank you in advance.

Maxea Clams are "supposedly" a hybrid between a Maxima and a Crocea. I've also not found any valid documentation that they actually exist. Barry is the guy who'd know for sure though. It'll be interesting to get his input.
Me too! I have also heard of derasa and squamosa clam hybrids. I really wish Barry or another clam expert would chime in.

Barry expalined to me that they are simply croceas that have been tank raised rather than wild caught and still have their scutes making their shells look more like the maximas.
They typically dont have the coloration of traditional croceas.

Having said that. The Maxea I bought, has all of the characteristics of my blue crocea and is nothing like either of my maxima's.

reefkoi.com was selling some as maxeas

sorry i dont know if i can post other sites if i cant ill take it down

LOL that is my link. And no there is no such thing as a hybrid clam. If it were possible they would have done it long ago in the wild.

I hope that it was ok using your link. I found it awhile ago and just thought that it was a good read and made me think.
