if I get one it will be new. I found a 150 with 2 24 watt t5s and legs for about 200 bucks. I am wondering if that will work for what I want to do. I realize that its not a 175 but its what I can find and what I can spend. I know its not going to be the best one out there but I think it should be ok.

Would this work?

can ya try the 250 and instead using legs, hang them as a pendant so its not so close to the tank?

I see some mention that 250w would be too much for this tank...If it is more than a heat issue but rather, too much light, I'd have to kinda disagree. If you consider what most people run on a 75gal (dual 250w) which is lower in height than this tank, then I don't really see why it would be too much light (if that is the case). Cut a 75gal in half length ways, shave off a few inches of its width (front to back) and you'll have basically the tank in question slightly taller. I'll more than agree that heat will play a major role here (which can be controlled with fans, a chiller etc) but it being too much light, I'll disagree :D

i have a 70HQi on a 5.5g

if you put a 250 on a tank that size the temp will be hard to fight....

but i agree with Krish.... fans controllers ATO will be a must.... a sump (will make it eazyer)

id say you want the light about 1'-2' off the water

so would it be best to ge teh 150 hqi w/ 2 24 watt t5s that I found? its a little more then the other one infact almost double but I don't want used and I don't mind having to spend a little more if it will work better

Sounds like an excellent light for a small tank! Would allow, SPS, clams, softys, fish: the works!

I agree with Mike! I had a 150HQI over my 24gal aquapod which was real nice, could support whatever I wanted and heat wasn't hard to manage! Eventhough the 250w could work IMO, why go with it if you don't have to :)

yeah its a lot more cash but thats ok as long as its going to work and make my life easier is all I care about.

what I was thinking is if I hang the light a little higher up then normal it should be ok. as well the fixture has a couple built in fans that should help. i was also thinking that if I removed the heater from my tank or just kept it turned way down it might be ok

wouldnt that be a waste of money and energy? if your going to hang it higher do disperse the heat, you might as well buy a smaller wattage light.

yeah thas true Bill all I am going to do is get that 150 with the 2 t5s and that shouldbe a perfect set up for this thank
