If you won't have anything light-demanding in the tank, you can have 3 250's. But it may not be visually appealing, that is up to you. I would suggest getting electronic ballasts, regardless of what wattage bulbs you get. Magnetic ballasts heat up a bit, and are so bulky/heavy that they are a MAJOR pain to mount, especially when you have 3 or 4 of them. I would not even consider putting them in your canopy (you would crush the tank). Good luck!
