micro bubbles

hello everyone, i have an 58 gallon reef ready tank with loc line for my return and i'm getting some micro bubbles that go back in my tank, i have checked everything, is this some what normal? please help .

Is the lockline completely submerged? If not, that can cause micro-bubbles. Some people are lucky and can get away with it out of the water, but some have to keep all their lockline submerged. Also, if it is on a closed loop, there could be air trapped in the lines and if it is a sump return, check the return chamber and see if there are any micro-bubbles in there

Do you have bubble trap baffles in your sump? If so, are you seeing bubbles get past them to your return pump? If there's bubbles in your sump getting to your return pump, try adding baffles or even a sponge before the return pump. If you use a sponge, make sure you rinse it at least once a week. Otherwise, it'll become a nitrate producer. If there are no bubbles getting to your return pump, the cause is between the return pump and your display. Another cause could be low water in the return area allowing air to get sucked up by the return pump and added to the water. I have that problem if I allow enough evap.

well, it's almost not worth saying, but krish and sid hit the nail on the head with both points. i had a micro bubble problem with lockline in the past that was caused by it not being submerged. i was able to just re-bend it and the problem went away. the other, and in my opinion more likely, culprit is the bubbles from the sump. there's always bubbles in the sump that can easily get sucked up by the return pump; especially if there aren't adequate baffles installed.

I noticed my skimmer produces alot of bubbles in the sump. I have a sponge but the really small ones build up and get through. I added another piece of polyfilter between the sponge and the return pump. More to clean but I hate the look of the micro bubbles.

Anyway what he said is what I did basicalll (sp ok I will have to get premium Reef Frontiers so I get the spell checker ) Something to trap bubbles that won't kill your flow.

I am a newbie, but with the stuff I learned here I am now the proud mother of good water and a BTA and good looking LR and fish that are wanting mates......(errr if ya know what I mean )

i talked to a guy at oceanic and said if the Loc line threaded fitting isn't Teflon taped or is loose it can suck in air like a venturi. There is a small hole on the underside of the return elbow that should be kept clear of debris.If one of the loc line segments is loose and has a lot of play, air can be sucked in from there
